    Arthur Preuss (b. 23 February 1878, Kaliningrad, Russia; d. 20 August 1944, Vienna), tenor.
Mahler appointed Preuss to the company of the Vienna Court Opera in 1899, where he specialised in buffo and smaller tenor roles. Notable performances under Mahler included singing in the restaging of Richard Strauss’ Feuersnot (Need for Fire) on 5 June 1905, alongside fellow ensemble members such as Hermine Kittel and Leopold Demuth and playing Hirten in Tristan and Isolde in a number of performances, including on 19 October 1906 alongside Erik Schmedes as Tristan and Anna von Mildenburg as Isolde.

Arthur Preuss was to suffer a tragic death under the Nazi dictatorship. His son was involved in the resistance, which led Preuss to be interrogated by the Gestapo. He collapsed and died during the interrogation on 20 August 1944.
